Kahoot! 360 Website Cookie Notice

1. Introduction

This cookie notice (the “Cookie Notice“) is prepared by Kahoot! AS (“Kahoot!” “us”, “we” and “our”) and contains information about our use of cookies which we use in our products and on our Kahoot! 360 Website. For example, we use cookies to distinguish you from other users of our Kahoot! 360 Website, and to provide functionality and a better user experience to you. This Cookie Notice includes details about the types of cookies we use, the purpose of our use of cookies and your rights in connection with our use of cookies.

Websites to which this Cookie Notice applies

This Cookie Notice applies to the kahoot360.com website (the “Kahoot! 360 Website”) only. It does not apply to the Kahoot! 360 app, the kahoot.com website, or any other Kahoot! websites or services. For cookies used on those websites and services, please refer to the Kahoot! Cookie Notice.

The preferences you provide in the cookie preference center will determine which cookies apply to your use of our Kahoot! 360 Website. Your preferences will continue to apply if you enter a subdomain.

2. What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser, or the hard drive of your device when you visit a website. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your device’s hard drive. They are generally used to make websites work, to keep track of your movements within the website, to remember your login details, to remember your preferences and interests, and so on. Pixels, web beacons and other technologies are also used to monitor your use of our Kahoot! 360 Website.

There are different types of cookies, and they can be distinguished on the basis of their origin, function and lifespan. Important characteristics of cookies include the following:

  • First-party cookies are cookies that are placed by the website you are visiting, while third-party cookies are placed by a website other than the one you are visiting. Please note that we do not control the collection or further use of data by third-parties.
  • Strictly necessary cookies are necessary to allow the technical operation of a website (e.g., they enable you to move around on a website and to use its features).
  • Performance cookies collect data on the performance of a website such as the number of visitors, the time spent on the website and error messages.
  • Functionality cookies increase the usability of a website by remembering your choices (e.g. language, region, login, and so on).
  • Targeting/marketing cookies enable a website to send you personalized advertising.
  • Session cookies are temporary cookies that are erased once you close your browser while persistent or permanent cookies stay on your device until you manually delete them or until your browser deletes them based on the duration period specified in the persistent cookie file.

In this notice, we will refer to all of the aforementioned technologies as “cookies”.

More information on all aspects of cookies can be found on http://www.allaboutcookies.org/. Please note that Kahoot! has no affiliation with, and is not responsible for, this third-party website.

Why do we use cookies?

We may use cookies to:

  •   distinguish between visitors;
  •   improve the use and the functionality of our Kahoot! 360 Website;
  •   tailor our Kahoot! 360 Website and products to your needs and preferences; and
  •   analyse how our Kahoot! 360 Website are used and compile anonymous and aggregate statistics.

We do not use the collected information to create visitor profiles.

Please note that the processing of your personal data in connection with cookies, and for other purposes, is governed by our Privacy Notice.

Other technologies

We use session storage for basic website statistics and functionality monitoring. See our Privacy Notice for details.

In addition, we may also use web beacons (or clear GIFs) and other similar technologies in addition to, or in combination with, cookies. A web beacon is typically a transparent graphic image (usually 1 pixel x 1 pixel) that is placed on a website or in an email and it helps us to understand the behaviour of visitors to our Kahoot! 360 Website. More information on web beacons can be found at http://www.allaboutcookies.org/faqs/beacons.html. Please note that Kahoot! has no affiliation with, and is not responsible for, this third-party website.

3. What type of cookies do we use?

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the Kahoot! 360 Website will not then work.

Performance cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Kahoot! 360 Website. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the Kahoot! 360 Website. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our Kahoot! 360 Website, and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable the Kahoot! 360 Website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.

Third-party cookies

These cookies are set by our third-party content providers, such as YouTube when you watch or load a YouTube video in the Kahoot! platform, and they are therefore not affected by the consent pop-up that you interact with on the Kahoot! 360 Website. We do not use third-party cookies on our service for personalized advertising or to track users and display personalized advertisements on other third-party Kahoot! 360 Website or services.

There are no ads in the embedded YouTube player within the Kahoot! platform. The embedded YouTube player allows users to choose content and embed it in a kahoot without content personalization in the player or on youtube.com. When users use YouTube on the Kahoot! platform, their views won’t be connected back to their YouTube account, and their watch history won’t be tracked over time.

4. How you can control your cookies

You have the right to decide whether to reject or accept cookies. Except for the essential cookies that are strictly required for our provision of services to you, cookies are only permitted if you are informed about and have consented to the use of cookies. There are different ways in which you can manage your cookies:

Website cookie preference tool: A cookie banner will appear on your screen the first time when you visit our Kahoot! 360 Website, or access the website with a new device, informing you of our use of cookies. The cookie banner includes a link to our cookie settings preference center. In the cookie settings preference center you can choose which cookies you accept or reject. You can always change your cookie settings by clicking the “Cookies preference center” on the bottom of our website, or under “privacy” in your profile settings in the app.

Browser controls: You may set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. If you choose to reject cookies you may still use our Kahoot! 360 Website. However, your access to some functionality and areas may be restricted or your user experience will be impaired. The means by which you can refuse cookies through your web-browser may vary from browser to browser and you should visit your browser’s help menu for more information.

Do Not Track: Some browsers – like Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari – include the ability to transmit “Do Not Track” or “DNT” signals. Since uniform standards for DNT signals have not yet been adopted our web pages do not currently process or respond to DNT. Kahoot! does take privacy and your right to make choices seriously and we continue to monitor developments around DNT browser technologies and the implementation of a standard.

More information on how to manage cookies is available from: http://www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/. Please note that Kahoot! has no affiliation with, and is not responsible for, this third-party website.

In addition, you may opt-out from certain cookies by visiting the following third-party websites and selecting which company cookies you would like to opt-out from: http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ and http://www.youronlinechoices.com/. Please note that Kahoot! has no affiliation with, and is not responsible for, these third-party websites.

5. Third-party websites and plug-ins

The Services and Kahoot! 360 Website include social media features, such as social media plug-ins with Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. These features may collect information about your IP-address and which page you are visiting on our Kahoot! 360 Website, and they may set a cookie to make sure the feature functions properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third-party or hosted directly on our Websites. We also maintain presences on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Any information, communications, or materials you submit to us via a social media platform is done at your own risk without any expectation of privacy. We cannot control the actions of other users of these platforms or the actions of the platforms themselves. Your interactions with those features and platforms are governed by the privacy policies of the companies that provide them.

6. Updates and contact

We may update this Cookie Notice from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. We encourage you to revisit this Cookie Notice regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies.

If you have questions regarding our use of cookies or this Cookie Notice, please contact us at privacy@kahoot.com.
