For Teachers

Kahoot! is built with privacy‑first classrooms in mind. Students can join games without creating accounts and we only collect data that’s needed to run learning safely.

Teacher Quick Start: Safe in 60 seconds

  1. Host a kahoot → enable Nickname generator.
  2. Share a game PIN → students join without accounts.
  3. After class → review reports; export only what you need.
  4. Deletearchive or delete reports you no longer need.
  5. Scaling up? → set up SSO with Google/Microsoft/Clever/ClassLink.

Tips

  • Avoid personally identifiable information (PII)/personal data in class names and nicknames and use the nickname generator for younger students.
  • Use content moderation and report tools for inappropriate nicknames.
  • Use student-paced modes without accounts for low‑PII sessions.

Teacher FAQ

  • Do students need accounts?
    • No. Students can join by PIN using only a nickname.
  • What student information can I see?
    • By default, teachers can see students’ answers and response times, along with their nicknames. Emails are not required to play. With Player ID enabled (available on select plans) teachers can additionally track the first name and last initial of participating students along with their results over time.
  • Can parents request deletion?
    • Yes, if a student has created an account, parents can request deletion. Parents can read about how to delete child accounts here, or reach out to support to request deletion.

    • We utilize content moderation tools to monitor public content which allows for users to flag inappropriate content. On our Discover page, accessible without an account, we only show content from ourselves, our partners and our verified creators.
  • Are you COPPA, FERPA and GDPR compliant?
    • Our products are designed to align with COPPA, FERPA and GDPR. We continue to actively monitor developments in this area. You can read more about our privacy practices in our Privacy Notice.
